🥢 Did You Know? The Secret History of Monjayaki!
Monjayaki might look like a cousin of okonomiyaki, but did you know it actually started as a kids’ snack in old Tokyo (Edo period)?
Back then, kids would mix flour and water, and pour it on a hot plate to draw letters—this was called “moji-yaki” (letter-grilling).
Over time, it evolved into the savory, melty monjayaki we know today! 🔥
Unlike okonomiyaki, monja has a gooier texture and is eaten directly from the grill using a small spatula.
Fun, interactive, and full of flavor—it’s a true Tokyo local experience!
So next time you're in Asakusa, try this nostalgic dish with a taste of history 🇯🇵✨
